My journey into the world of speech and language therapy came at a time when I needed help in developing my daughter’s speech & language skills. Whilst we worked with the NHS, who did the best they could with the resources available, it became apparent that she would need more than monthly sessions for her to progress. I felt it was up to me to open up her world further to encourage and stimulate her cognitive behaviour which in turn would progress to speech.
After much personal research and many recommendations I met Sunita Shah. Sunita is an amazing Speech Therapist. I wasn't disappointed. I wanted the best for my little girl and I got the best. From our first session I was hooked. Sunita engaged with me and taught me how to communicate with my daughter. Her approach changed the way I worked with my little girl.
As a parent when your child is non-verbal it is very hard to know how to help them, it is extremely frustrating and in times like this having Sunita to talk too helped me realise that it was okay for me to feel the way I was feeling. She turned my frustration into confidence on how to help develop my daughters’ speech and all within our daily routine. She opened my mind up to a whole new world and I haven’t been able to stop since. Sunita inspired me to want to develop further into the world of speech and language and so I decided to study and I completed a course on Speech and Language development and passed with Distinction and just like that Happy Chatters was born. But I have not stopped there, I am further developing my skills in using new and different forms of natural therapy to help parents and children.
Working with my little one has taught me so much but mostly it’s taught me the value of being a parent. It’s my job to make sure that she develops the necessary life skills to become a confident person and in doing so a big part of it is being able to recognise when I needed help as that it’s not about me and what I can do, but about what’s important and necessary for my child.
